Whitewater rafting and kayaking
Taupo, New Zealand.

RAFTING:

What if it rains?
White water rafting, by its nature, involves getting wet. However, KRS provides all the equipment necessary to provide warmth and comfort.

Is safety guaranteed?
As with all outdoor adventure activities, rafting carries an element of risk. But that risk can be managed and minimized, which is why it is important to travel by river with an operator of proven experience.

Do intending rafters need to be experienced?
NO. KRS is fully equipped to deal with all levels of experience, confidence and daring. But a good level of fitness is desirable in order to fully enjoy any outdoor activity.

Are there age limits?
KRS offers a variety of raft trips to suit all ages. The minimum age limit for each trip is determined by the grade of the river trip. See our list of river trips for details.

What equipment is required?
Bring a towel, swimsuit, warm change of clothing and personal medication if required.

What is the 'grade' of a rafting trip?
See this description of the international grading system

KAYAKING:

What if it rains?
Kayaking trips are weather dependent, but only because this trip is much more enjoyable in good weather. If you would like to kayak in the rain, and the conditions are not extreme, we will run the trip for you. KRS will cancel trips in extreme weather conditions.

Is safety guaranteed?
The risks on this trip are very minimal, but as with all outdoor adventure activities, there is some risk. But that risk can be managed and minimized, which is why it is important to travel by river with an operator of proven experience.

Do intending kayakers need to be experienced?
NO. The Waikato River trip is a gentle, float trip with no rapids. The kayaks are open cockpit and easy to maneouvre. Your kayak guide will provide additional instruction and be there to assist with any problems that you may have.

Are there age limits?
While almost anyone can particpate in this trip, we do recommend a minimum age of 8 to paddle your own kayak and 3 to ride along with an adult.
