Tongariro River

Beautiful volcanic cliffs, crystal clear water and fun filled rapids make this a great river trip for the novice rafter. There are more than fifty rapids, which are generally grade 3 boulder gardens with calm pools in between. Relax between the rapids and catch a glimpse of rainbow trout in the deep pools. The river is home for the rare native blue duck or "Whio".
